The Prime Minister of Turkey: Stop Turkey’s proposed Death Camps for stray animals!

Animal lovers and welfare organizations in Turkey have been shocked and outraged by the governments proposed changes to Turkey's very comprehensive Animal Rights law 5199.
The draft document which was prepared in secret and presented to Parliament last month (September), if passed, would mean a slow and lingering death for all of Turkey's stray cats and dogs!
The Government's plan which marks a complete U turn in policy, intends to abolish the current programme of TNR - Trap, Neuter and Return* instead it proposes that municipalities round up ALL free roaming animals (dogs and perhaps even cats) and place them in what they are calling 'Dogal hayat parklari' (natural life parks) Now this may sound nice but these parks will just be fenced off areas, probably forests, far from populated areas where hundreds or even thousands of animals will have to fend for themselves. Those that don't die of starvation will probably suffer terrible injuries from fights over limited food sources and disease will spread through the population like wildfire.
At the moment many municipalities do not employ a vet to neuter or treat street animals, some cannot even support the animal shelters in their own areas properly so who is going to care for the animals in these out of the way parks? There will be no way to check on their welfare or even to find out if animals were actually taken there at all or disposed of in some other way!! These "parks" will become nothing but mass death camps!

PLEASE if you love animals and care for Turkey let the Turkish Government know what a huge mistake they are making. Let them know that this is unacceptable and will put you off Turkey as a holiday destination if allowed to happen!!

You have the power to influence this proposal. Please sign our petition and add your voice to the thousands across Turkey who have already made their protest known.
Thank you

*TNR – Trap, Neuter and Return - the only method of stray animal population control endorsed by The World Health Organisation.

Thank you in advance

According to an article in Hurriyet newspaper 30,05,2014 despite the new bill for animal management not having been passed yet plans for a 21st century Hayırsız İsland style concentration camp for 20,000 dogs are being implemented in Kısırkaya north of İstanbul. It is feared that this will be nothing more than a slaughter center for dogs.
Has the government learnt nothing from the 1910 experience when over 80,000 dogs were rounded up on the streets of Istanbul and placed on Hayırsız İsland to die? http://streetdogstory.com/2013/09/16/street-dog-genocide/

İt seems that the newspapers here jumped the gun somewhat yesterday with headlines like 'Gov't withdraws controversial amendment to animal protection law' and 'Gov't steps back in bid to amend animal rights law'. Although technically these two headlines were correct we were led to believe that the 'Death law' as it is now widely being called, had been withdrawn but in fact it was an earlier draft proposal presented in February by Mr Umit Oral that has been withrawn for further discussions, NOT the proposal presented last month by The Minister for Forestry and Water Mr Veysel Eroglu which includes the planned 'natural life parks' or Death camps as they are more realisticly being
This draft amendment proposal is still to be Presented and discussedby the Government's Environment Commission.

Animal lovers and activists in Turkey were thrilled today to hear that the Turkish government had withdrawn the draft amendment proposal before it was discussed by the parliament's Enviroment Commission. Officials stated that the proposal will be put back into the Commission agenda after some changes have been made to controvertial articles. However, what these changes will be is not yet clear. This is all the more reason to make our voices heard! We have the chance to make a difference! PLEASE keep this petition circulating!

Thousands of animal rights activists marched against a draft law on Sunday that would make changes to Turkey's Animal Protection Law No. 5199, seeking to introduce practices currently used in other countries such as collecting stray animals from the streets and euthanizing members of the “excess” population.
More than 10,000 people marched in İstanbul's Taksim neighborhood, and many others walked in 13 other cities, in protest of the planned changes. The media didn't cover the event extensively during the day, as the congress of the Justice and Development Party (AK Party), also held on Sunday, stole the show, at least on television screens. Social media users, however, provided equal coverage.
Turks will not give up their stray animals to be isolated or euthanized. There were simultaneous protests in 13 other cities, although officials have mostly been silent on the matter. . . . .
