From Petition Creator: The Honourable Christian Paradis, P.C., M.P. informed me that federal funding will continue to support the YI Program in 2013-2014. Industry Canada officials have been in contact with recipient organizations in Ontario and expect to launch a call for proposals in the upcoming weeks.

The Youth Interns at CAS Program is a youth employment initiative that enables youth interns to gain valuable work experience and develop their people skills, communication skills, and time management skills. These skills are highly valued in the labour force. The CAS program targets citizens without ready high speed access to computers and little or no formal training on using computers. The Youth Interns offer a practical way for many of our rural citizens to cross the digital divide. To enable economic recovery and access to online government services in their home community CAS helps specific groups - youth, seniors, new Canadians and the unemployed. Searching and applying for a job on the Internet and acquiring new computer skills and/or updating current computer skills opens the door to meaningful employment. Many Canadians rely on the CAS Program for universal access to quality training on computers and other digital devices used in today's society. Long term, sustainable funding for the YI at CAS Program would continue to promote a stronger Canadian labour force.

As volunteer computer instructor at an Ottawa Chinese senior centre, I would like to testify that the Youth Interns from the CAS program have been providing valuable service to our members. It is a win-win initiative because these young individuals are also gaining marketable work experience and skills in prep for entering into the Canadian labour force.

Minister Paradis, many of the seniors in the Ottawa Chinese community will really appreciate it if the Harper Government will provide long term, sustainable funding for the CAS Program's Youth Interns.

The CAP funding allows organizations to provide students with practical, hands-on experience in their field. It benefits both parties. Without CAP funding, some non-profit and other organizations, would not be able to afford to provide this opportunity. There are so many benefits to this program.

I support youth internship and see an erosion of all these worthwhile projects. My daughter was part of a now defunct program that took her to New Zealand as a youth intern . What valuable experience she got!
