The Government of British Columbia: Decline SIA's permit to dump contaminated soil in Shawnigan Lake

      Shawnigan Lake, Canada

The protection and security of our water is fundamental importance. South Island Aggregates has applied and been granted a draft (soon to be approved) permit to dump over 100 million tons of contaminated soil into OUR watershed.

Despite strong scientific evidence from government, the health authority and independent scientists, showing high risk of contamination of the Shawnigan Lake Watershed, the Ministry has decided to allow this to happen.

Strong community opposition of SIA's permit has fallen on deaf ears. As a community we must step up and protect our water, our property values, our environment and our future.

Send a message to the politicians in Victoria. The Shawnigan Lake Watershed is not for sale.

Government must stop and reverse this decision.

Permitting SIA to dump contaminated soil into the drinking water of thousands of people could have potentially disastrous results, especially if the ministry lacked the funds or drive to properly monitor SIA's dumping practices.

I have been coming to Shawnigan since i was a little boy. I have my own family and they love it here, i am in the water purification business, and as a citizen and a business owner who believes in the sustainability of our water sources, i am sincerely bothered that the topic of dumping toxic soil that at some point in time will affect my home and sanctuary is troubling and i want to help in any way i can. Please contact me if i can help organize a fundraiser on Indiegogo campaign or whatever you need to end this whole despicable idea. thanks very much.
