Restart national action over pensions

    1. Petition by

      Leon Bond

      United Kingdom

We know the PCS NEC is trying hard to get national action over pensions, and we pledge our support to fight for the action to be put back on as soon as possible.
However we feel it is important to put on record that we were disappointed that the NEC called off action on M28 and believe that this was the wrong decision. Whatever difficulties we face in relation to other unions, these will only be harder if there are more delays.
Our members had been consulted, voted overwhelmingly for action, and were preparing for a strike. PCS has always led from the front and argued that it is taking action that counts. If other unions are wavering we would have most influence by standing firm and standing by what our members had voted for.
Of course it has become harder since other unions withdrew from the fight. But as one of the unions who understand that we can’t give up on the pensions battle, PCS needs to act decisively.
We also need to urgently put the strategy for group and branch action back on track since much of this has been delayed pending the proposed M28 action.
We believe that it is important to learn the lessons from the past few months so that we can fight more effectively in the future.
We need to start by organising as much practical solidarity and twinning with those taking action on M28 in London. We all have a huge task on our hands, to keep our members in fighting mood, to encourage other trade unions locally and nationally to come with us, and to develop and strengthen our strategy for fighting to defend our members against all the attacks we face from this government.

Because it looks like we are giving in & following the pack rather than leading the struggle

All sensible options to readdress the pension issues have been ignored in favoured of steamrolling over public servants and their existing contracts and rights

We are the only union fighting for the Civil Service Pension. It's important we don't overlook this fact as we may well be left to fight alone if other schemes are agreed by their members.

Angered by our recent NEC decision and regard this as a betrayal of both our members and our class!

When other union leaders (like Prentice) deserted their members on the pension issue, Mark Serwotka was strong. PCS is the union politicians are watching. We should have been out March 28th
