In 1974, a study sponsored by the government proved that Cannabis combats cancer. Since then, millions have died needlessly from cancer. Marijuana needs to be legalized so that proper studies can be conducted to confirm the medicinal value of Cannabis oil. People need to be able to cure themselves without the risk of federal penalty hanging over their heads.
Also, the hemp plant is far more beneficial in textiles and construction than wood. One acre of hemp produces as much pulp for paper and concrete as trees, while hemp breathes in four times the carbon dioxide (Co2) than trees. And hemp matures in 12 to 14 weeks while it takes trees 20 years to mature. The deforestation of this planet could be markedly slowed, if not halted, for the production of these materials.
Hemp can also be used as a food source and for textiles to make clothing as well as construction materials that are stronger and more versatile than concrete.
And think of the impact hemp use would have on the American economy. Growing hemp would provide America with jobs, having such a hugely usable crop to use and export.
Legalizing marijuana makes ultimate financial sense. Legalize and tax it. Just imagine the impact those revenues alone would have on the national debt.
There is no good reason not to legalize hemp. Everything about the plant makes it a smart choice, starting with the health and welfare of the people in America and around the world, who would then be able to battle cancer and other major illness.
Show the people of America and the rest of the world that you care if they live. Sign an executive order to legalize marijuana.
Save the country. Save the planet. Save the people.

President Obama
Sign an executive order to legalize marijuana at the Federal level.

I have a severe seizure disorder treatable only by cannabis. I have tried every prescribed seizure option to no avail. I have been spending more than a thousand dollars a month for ineffective medicine which has not nor do I believe will ever help me. The only time I have gone more than a day without a seizure is when I was able to smoke marijuana visiting Colorado. A week in which my wife still cries about as the last time she was tortured by the reappearance of a husband that functioned only to disappear again shortly after leaving. Each day more of my memory, intelligence and ability to remain self aware leave me. Every seizure takes away more of what makes me me never to return. I am being unmade by a cruel and obtuse law which is every day destroying more of my life. Leaving me unable to utilize 70 thousand dollars in educations, unable to drive myself, shop for myself, maintain a bank account, hold an intelligible conversation and robbing me of everything that has ever been my quality of life. Their is no justice in this for me or any like me that are denied life saving medicine for no accountable reason but ignorance.

It took me more than an hour to write this paragraph.

10 lines, an hour of my life for 10 lines.

I graduated college with two B.S. In Biology and Environmental Science and a 3.98 GPA. I obtained my Masters in Mathematics and today struggle with helping my children with Kindergarten math.

Sleep well Mr. President. Laugh about the "petty" and look down on those who only wish to get high. Evaluate your poll numbers before you open your mouth to make a change. I voted for you twice. I believed in you when you said "Yes we can" I chanted it and I fell today utterly abandoned by you, your lack of ability to get anything done and miss the inspiration you gave me to follow you, to believe in the long desired change to the country I love. I take solace that I wake tomorrow and I get to be me. For better or worse I thank my God in heaven that I do not know what I don't know and you must wake and still be you.

Because having only select states with Marijuana legal will cause problems for neighboring states. It should be legal across the board, when Alcohol is far worse and causes violence, car accidents, and societal problems which Marijuana is not attributed to.
