Act Against Hunger Initiative of Mazon Advocacy Project PA

      Jenkintown, PA

Food insecurity in our area has increased 57% but the  funding for the State Food Purchase Program (SFPP)  has been slashed again and again despite higher food costs and a 100% increase in demand. The result is less food for more people. We urge the State legislature to allocate the requested $24 million for SFPP, a budget line item that is essential for the health and well being of Pennsylvania’s citizens.  Support the members of the Jewish community of the Greater Philadelphia area who are concerned about hunger in our state and the critical need for adequate funding of the SFPP. Our seniors, children and families are counting on you! We need you to be a CHAMPION and support $24 million in funding for SFPP in the 2013-14 budget.

Having adequate nutrition is the first step in having good health and being able to achieve goals in life. As our economy continues to struggle there is a large percentage of people who do not have the means to provide the necessary nutrition for themselves. This funding is critical to the efforts of many organizations to assist with providing food to those who need it.

Without adequate nutrition for our neighbors, all our other efforts fail: education, health, safety - please address this fundamental human need for children, seniors and the unemployed and underemployed on whom they rely.

No one should be hungry. We have so much food that goes wasted in this country.

With 1/4 of our population struggling to put food on the table, more help is needed. Also, more effort is needed to weed out those who exploit the system, but aren't in need.

Cutting funding for food is unconscionable. Get on this PA Legislature for the good of the Commonwealth!
