Trapped marine mammals are sad caricatures of the real thing. Please do not subject more creatures to pain and suffering for the sole purpose of public amusement. We would also like to have information on your captive mammals over the last decade made available.

      Hi everyone,
Thank you so much for signing the petition to end dolphin captivity at Ocean Park in Hong Kong. I just wanted to let you know that we will be holding our 2nd annual event this year on May 23rd 2014 at Ocean Park. This petition letter will be submitted to the management on the day of the event, along with a request for more definitive details about their cetacean population. I would also like to ask them about their previously mentioned plans to have a killer whale show , and hope that these plans were ditched.
Thanks again, and please share this petition. All names are much appreciated, and I look forward to seeing this through.

Thank you for leaving your signatures and comments for Ocean Park. I will be submitting an updated letter and petition in due course, and do hope that they can publicly address this situation and immediately cease their captive breeding programme. "Blackfish" may be a movie to keep your eyes out for, as it brings you the tragic truths of cetaceans in captivity. Say "NO" to the dolphin show. You will find an article in Hong Kong South Side and Sai Kung magazine about the event and the cause. (p.12)http://issuu.com/saikung/docs/saikung_sept13

Thank you again for taking the time to sign this petition for Hong Kong. I have had some positive dialogue from the management and look forward to a successful peaceful protest on 27th July 2013_ Worldwide Close Tanks Day.
“In fact, we learn far more about their natural behavior in natural places: their own habitat of the ocean.
"Until we would be comfortable sacrificing ourselves or one of our own human family members to another species to be “studied” we have no right to condone the imprisonment of dolphins.”

“What new information are we still learning from captive dolphins that can be applied to their counterparts in the wild that we haven’t gotten over the last 50+ years of dolphin captivity?”

"Throughout history, humanity has placed wild animals in cages and compounds for our entertainment and amusement. These animals are neither, amused or entertained. They prefer home just like you and me.”

      Dear Friends,
. Ocean Park recently held their press conference, spoke about their profits, expansion, and plans. As a HK citizen, I wanted to reach out to Mr. Zeman and his colleagues to express my concerns for their captive dolphins and breeding program. To my delight I was invited in for a meeting with the Chairman and Executive director. During our conversation, I asked him to consider alternative means of entertainment, given our technological advancement, it seems right that we should not use dolphins as a source of entertainment. A concrete tank is absolutely no place for cetaceans.
I handed my petition letter and signatures ( 1000 in 2 days), and informed him I would be back July 27th,

Soon after starting this petition, I stumbled upon video of Pinky, a 14 year old female dolphin at Ocean Park, throwing herself against the tank wall earlier his month. Ocean Theatre has been under reconstruction for a month and one wonders if these dolphins remain in the confines of their indoor tank for all of their days. This is cruel. In light of this information, I urge you to share this wide and far...every minute those creatures remain in the tank is suffering, and I propose that Ocean Park close down that dolphin attraction which has been going at least for 40 years. It's time for a change. Every signature makes a difference.

Thank you so much for those who have taken the time to sign this petition. I hope to get the opportunity to meet with Ocean Park, to hand them our letter and list of petition names closer to 27th July 2013. I have set this up because I feel that Ocean Park, can and should do better in this day and age. Everything changes, and this is one change I would like to see happen in this lifetime. I do hope that in 2 months we can acquire enough signatures that reflect our true feelings about Cetacean captivity in Hong Kong. There is no place for this in this century and we need to follow common sense like Switzerland and India...outlawing it.

I don't want Ocean Park to close down, but they can and should phase out their dolphin captivity. They could erect large sea-pens for those animals who can not be returned to the open sea. People would be happy to see them there for the time they have left. OP could also partner with org.'s like HK Dolphin Watch to organize trips to see marine animals in the wild. I LOVE supporting Ocean Park for it's conservation and education efforts, but these efforts should be real not a sham/money making scheme only. Please shut down the dolphin enclosures.

Because there are far too many people living here in HK who go through daily life not thinking of what is actually going on around them let alone world wide. We can all make a change and sometimes it takes only a very small gesture to make a big difference. As the late MJ once wrote....if you want to make the world a better place take a look at yourself and make that change!
