NSW Minister for Roads and Ports: Keep the fabulous Taylor Square rainbow crossing

    1. Petition by

Alex Greenwich MP, Independent Member for Sydney

Lesbians and gay men were beaten and bashed here in 1978! The rainbow crossing recognises the history of this precinct, is great public art and breathes life into Oxford Street.

Besides it costing us $110,000 to set up in the first, place, it's pretty important to Sydney's cultural identity. Keep it around.

It is representative of a part of our city's diversity and makes people smile.

It's apart of Australia's history and very likely our future as well.

This is important to myself because it represents the pride that the LGBTI community has. The rainbow crossing is colourful, like the community, and brings the intersection alive with it's vivid colours, unlike the rest.

With all of the oppression we see around the world. This simple rainbow crossing is a symbol for not only celebrating our gay and lesbian communities, but it also a symbol for all Australians to celebrate the diversity that makes this nation.
