Nobel Prize Committee: Award Sir Nicholas Winton the Nobel Peace Prize

    1. Petition by

      Menemsha Films

In 1939 a British man, Sir Nicholas Winton, saved 669 mainly Jewish children from Czechoslovakia, which was under occupation by Nazi Germany. While risking his own life he organized train transports of the children from the endangered area to Great Britain which was not yet affected by the war. There he found new homes for them and allowed them to start a new, safe life. He never talked about his deed and had it not been for his wife, who in 1988 by chance discovered documents about the whole operation, his heroic act would be forever hidden from the eyes of the public and the saved children.

Dozens of Winton's "children" have been found and to this day his family has grown to almost 6,000 people, many of whom have gone on to achieve great things themselves. Winton's story has also inspired thousands of children in countries around the world to follow in his footsteps through charitable deeds and life-saving efforts.

Sir Nicholas Winton is now 104 years of age and he continues to maintain that what he did for the Czechoslovakian children was nothing out of the ordinary.  We believe that for his acts Sir Nicholas Winton should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

We have begun this petition on behalf of the students of Open Gate School in the Czech Republic, who started this campaign to recognize the acts of heroism done by Sir Nicholas Winton, and to carry on his legacy. Already, over 120,000 Czech students have signed the petition. We encourage all people around the world who have been moved by the actions of Sir Nicholas Winton to join these Czech students in their efforts.

From the students of Open Gate School, Czech Republic:
"We are just a little older that the children that were saved by Nicholas Winton. If you think what this Englishman did for our country is an act of heroism, please sign the attached petition. We do not want to promote ourselves, but we do want this brave and modest man to be awarded.

"With your support we will address the initiative to the Nobel Prize Committee in Oslo, Norway.

"The objective of our initiative is not only the nomination of Sir Nicholas Winton for the Nobel Peace Prize but also to increase the awareness about his story. That is why we ask for your help with spreading this message."

We invite you to learn more about Sir Nicholas Winton here:

The Nobel Prize Committee
I support the campaign by the students of the Czech Republic for Sir Nicholas Winton to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. By his nomination we would like to appreciate the heroic deeds he took in Czechoslovakia before the outbreak of the Second World War that saved the lives of 669 children, and the incredible positive influence that his deeds have had and continue to have around the world.

In a time when the need to save the essence of humanity has seemed to dwindle, this man shines a beacon of light that speaks to our human need to save one another. He didn't just save 669 lives, those were potentially 669 families and generations that he saved. We don't have many heroes left in this world, let him go down in history as one. Make sure that his actions and his legacy are never forgotten.
