This photo by Michael Francis shows the horrifying reality of what our nations’ wild horse program has become.  The National Academy of Science recently released a report of its 2-year investigation overseeing the Bureau of Land Management Wild Horse & Burro Program. The headlines read: “National Academy Report Finds Serious Fault with BLM's Wild Horse and Burro Management Program.”  There has been very little use of scientific studies behind the current practices of managing the program.

To:
To: Secretary Sally Jewell,
The current policies executed by the BLM need to be totally reformed. The creation of a new group dedicated to wild horses & burros without invested interest or other bias towards livestock, mining, or energy industry is possible.

Sincerely,
[Your name]

Horses have been a part of our history; we need to protect these majestic animals. Otherwise, we will not have any more wild mustangs!

Reformation is desperately needed. The use of helicopters in round-ups must be stopped...and the amount of horses removed from public lands needs to be reviewed. There is enough grazing lands for both horses and cattle if managed properly.

There is a safe way and the wrong way to take care of horses. I believe the Bureau needs to work with the non profit organizations to get the job done right. We need to work together to give these beautiful creatures the best kind of life we can.
