Nilgala medicinal plant Forest is under threat due to the land grabbing by political supporters. These land grabbers spray weedicides inside this sensitive forest to kill the undergrowth and cut medicinal plants such as Aralu, Bulu, Nelli trees which history goes back to King Buddhadasa( 397 A. D). We organised the massive tree ordination ceramony on the 11th January 2014 to bring the public attention to this issue.
We demand STOP all land encroachments done in the past few years and stop destroying forest for planting cash crops such as Raubber and Rambutan.
We also demand to declare Nilgala Forest under the Forest Ordinance or under the Fauna and Flora Protection ordinance and demarcate the forest.
We demand the Forest Deparment to establish a proper forest guarding mechanim in Nilgala and set up a Forest Office with adequate staff to save the Forest.
