Ban Styrofoam Cups in New York City

We support your endeavour, Mayor Bloomberg, to ban styrofoam cups in New York City. New York has a large waste disposal problem and banning styrofoam cups would help relieve some of the issue. This would save New York City money in clean up costs, waste disposal, and other ways. Styrofoam also is harmful to the environment, and with the global warming-enduced storms recently on NYC like Hurricane Sandy and Winter Storm Nemo, we must do everything we can to prevent more storms like this and save lives. This would be a huge step forward for the environment, reducing costs in NYC, and preventing more landfills. We support you, Mayor Bloomberg. Please don't let us down.

Both as a New Yorker and supporter of environmentally sensible initiatives, I find this a very compelling endeavour.

As a huge proponent of organics recycling, styrofoam presents a real challenge to that in a commercial setting. Many businesses provide styrofoam cups to their employees and they end up in the organics waste stream. Additionally, it is tremendously unsustainable.

Styrofoam is terrible for the environment and is still used despite safe alternatives. No brainer - unless you're worried about styrofoam companies.
