London developers, The Olympian Group, have purchased the site that Legends stands on and intend to demolish it, in order to build yet another Motel chain within the city centre. In the process, they will be destroying an iconic piece of Manchester history, for both our music scene and our LGBTQ community. At present it is host to Bollox, Homoelectric, Club Lash, Twisted Wheel and Black Planet amongst others.

Also this building has huge historic significance, as much the Cavern or the 100 Club. This building is the site of Twisted Wheel which is the longest running club in the world. This was the most famous club in Manchester from the 1960's onwards, hosting amongst others The Kinks and Ben E King.

It's not a done deal yet and it doesn't have to be - let's save Legends...

Legends is so well loved in our city. It has an incredible history and a vibrant present. We do not want to lose it. We care about our city and its future. This much is obvious from the passion that the possibility of losing our venue has stimulated.

What next? We're waiting for Olympic to submit a planning application, when it does we'll contact you again asking for you to write individual letters to the Manchester City Council planning committee.

In the mean time, you may want to email the Directors of the hotel chain which will use the building, let them know what Legends means! (thanks Kirsty Bradley for your amazing detective work!!)

REMEMBER, BE POLITE, NO SWEAR WORDS, persuade em nicely!!!

We lost jillys which was an iconic piece of history and there will never be anywhere like it again! it took everyone a long time to find somewhere that even came close but when we found legends everything just fell into place again! The alternative rock clubs are not the same as other clubs they are more like communities where you make lifelong friends! and when you shut them down you are leaving us all deserted!!!! shut down some student bar instead of one of are clubs for once!!! it means so much more to us as we don't have many places in manchester left! please don't take legends from us as well!!!

Alternative appearance to most people = not a valid member of society. Not acceptable, there are thousands of pubs/bars/nightclubs if you look 'average'. Be fair!
