Ban Animal Act Circuses on Public Land in Kilkenny

We call on the members of Kilkenny Borough Council to support the ban on Animal Act Circuses on public land in Kilkenny. Following other Irish city and Borough councils such as Wicklow, Drogheda and Monaghan and many countries national bans, we ask the Kilkenny Borough Council to stop allowing the use of publicly owned land for businesses that force animals to perform for entertainment. The use of animals in circuses should be a thing of the past and in this age, should be viewed as an unecessary cruelty.
Chimpanzees, bears, tigers, elephants, and other animals aren't actors, spectacles to imprison and gawk at, or circus clowns. Yet thousands of these animals are forced to perform silly, confusing tricks under the threat of physical punishment; are carted around the country in cramped and stuffy boxcars or semi-truck trailers; are kept chained or caged in barren, boring, and filthy enclosures; and are separated from their families and friends—all for the sake of human "entertainment." Many of these animals even pay with their lives.
Animals used in circuses do not voluntarily ride bicycles, stand on their heads, balance on balls, or jump through rings of fire. To force them to perform these confusing and physically demanding tricks, trainers use bullhooks, whips, tight collars, muzzles, electric prods, and other painful tools of the trade. When they're not performing, elephants are often kept shackled by two legs, and lions, tigers, bears, primates, and other animals are forced to eat, sleep, and relieve themselves in tiny cages.
This is not a ban on all circuses, just the old fashioned ones that still use animals. Animal free circuses would still be welcome to entertain the public, but without cruelty and forced performance of non human animals.

The Kilkenny Council will vote on this proposed ban at their next meeting on April 9th. Hopefully our protests and petition will help convince the remaining members that the public at large want an end to enforced performances by animals in circuses. The 6 councilors named above are the councilors who voted against the proposal last year - hopefully they will change their minds...

It's cruelty to animals for the purpose of entertainment. It is wrong and no animal deserves to be hurt

Its sickening and cruel to other species of life. It distresses them and should be stopped. They are not there for our amusement.

Animals are not actors! They should not be treated to such torture for any reason least of all not to entertain your children! Come on people! Open your eyes! Human beings need to take more responsibility for what we see and do for entertainment value!
