Give Facebook Users Choice to Use Timeline

This is about people having a choice.

Every single person, organization and business using Facebook Pages will be forced on March 30, 2012, WITHOUT CHOICE, to use a timeline that is not necessary, impedes communication, and affects privacy and malfunctions.

You can see a preview of timeline here: https://www.facebook.com/about/timeline

The Facebook timeline has been put in place for business, organization and community pages. The timeline hampers communication, is technically faulty, graphically heavy, and is not user friendly. Regardless of how the technology functions, users do not have a choice. This is against net neutrality, an Internet principle that Facebook supports.

EPIC [Electronic Privacy Information Center] is asking the FTC [Federal Trade Commission] to look further into Timeline because Facebook is already under scrutiny for privacy issues of the past. You can read more here: http://epic.org/privacy/facebook/

As an IT Tech, business owner, and public relations, I am currently test driving Timeline  profossionally and personally.

Here are JPEG examples of how faulty Timeline is.

In addition to the above, people [the public to all business, organizations and anyone that has a page in Facebook] have expressed to me personally that they have visited Timeline pages less frequent due to faulty functionality, extensive graphics and inability to spend extra time to access and post.

Using Timeline on my personal page, as well as my business, has made it more difficult to communicate and share information, privacy settings are readjusted without your consent, anyone can easily click on random information without you allowing it and in order to tighten up your own security, as a business, it takes at least 4 - 5 days to clear up anything you may have had on Facebook that you do not wish others to see.

I fail to see how Timeline will help brands, businesses and organizations when people do not wish to visit the pages due to Timeline and the interface malfunctions.

"Net Neutrality is the Internet’s guiding principle: It preserves our right to communicate freely online. This is the definition of an open Internet. It guarantees a level playing field for all websites and Internet technologies.

Net Neutrality is the reason the Internet has driven online economic innovation, democratic participation and free speech. It protects our right to use any equipment, content, application or service without interference from the network provider.

With Net Neutrality, the network's only job is to move data — not choose which data to privilege with higher-quality service and which to demote to a slower lane. Supporters of Net Neutrality include leading tech companies such as Amazon, eBay, Intel, Microsoft, Facebook and Yahoo." - Save The Internet

Timeline stands against net neutrality, an Internet principle that Facebook supports.

If changes are not implemented by Facebook to give users a choice to return to original Facebook interface, I foresee a drastic downfall of the quality of information that will be available on Facebook.

As of March 30, Timeline features will automatically apply to personal and business pages without you choosing this option.  Facebook is going to do that for you.

Once mass implemented on March 30, there is no deactivation of timeline.

The development is faulty and this interface has not been tested enough before being forced upon the public.

EPIC Urges FTC Investigation into Facebook Timeline: EPIC sent a letter requesting that the Federal Trade Commission determine whether changes Facebook has made to the profiles of its users are consistent with the terms of a settlement reached between Facebook and the FTC. EPIC's letter states that "with Timeline, Facebook has once again taken control over the user's data from the user and has now made information that was essentially archived and inaccessible widely available without the consent of the user." The settlement requires Facebook to give users clear and prominent notice and obtain users' express consent before changing their privacy settings. EPIC sent a similar letter to the FTC about Timeline and the secret tracking of users in September 2011. For more information, see EPIC: Facebook Privacy, and EPIC: FTC Facebook Settlement. I have never liked Timeline from the beginning. It's aesthetically unpleasant , and it does not encourage good communication. It just isn't functional, all privacy issues aside.

When I first saw my account turned into a Timeline account, my gut reaction was to delete my account. If I am forced to use Timeline, I will delete my account.

I find the new Timeline very confusing and difficult to use. It induces migraine headaches, and anyone who is even slightly dyslexic will have great difficulty using it. Many people will leave facebook, or spend less time on it, when we are forced into Timeline. Why not make it optional?

Users should have the choice to use Timeline or the original format. Looks like a bunch of poster-board clutter.
