Refund Leyton Olympia Food Market traders

    1. Petition by

      Donna Thomas

      London, United Kingdom

We - the Leyton traders - were mis-sold pitches, some at a cost of £27,000, after being told that crowds of up to 80,000 people would pass the ethnic food market set up for the Olympics.

Council documents actually advise people to avoid the area - for many of us days have passed with no customers at all. Those that do pass from the Olympic Village say that no one even knows we're here.

Some of us took out huge loans, even re-mortgaged our houses, and now we're desperate. The Council and North London Business, who sold the pitches, must speak to us! Many of us will not survive such huge losses.

If you google more about this matter, you will find more voice from different perspectives. I do want to interview those stallholders, but I just have no access to them. I will appreciate it very much If any one can generously provide some help. BTW, similar disasters took place after Beijing Olympics. Isn't it high time for us to reflect on the darkness of Olympic legacy?

The pitches were extortionate and it sounds like the council didnt promote the traders at all

if indeed you paid such large sum of money for a service, then the service must be provided.

The Olympics was publicised as a great opportunity for Hackney and London as a whole. Local stall holders should benefit from it instead of being conned and robbed. This is an appalling way to treat stall holders who have paid thousands to the council and not been reimbursed!
