Aid to Pakistan is to be increased from £267m to £446m in 2014/15 even though it has emerged that fewer than one per cent of Pakistanis paid any income tax. The International Development Select Committee says that corruption is 'rife' in Pakistan and that around 70 per cent of the nation's MPs do not pay any tax. The people in the UK should not be expected to pay taxes to improve education and health in Pakistan if the Pakistan elite are not paying income tax! There is no case whatsoever for maintaining the UK's bilateral aid to Pakistan when corruption in Pakistan is rife in a social order based on patronage and kinship networks and Pakistan's rich do not pay taxes and exhibit little interest in improving conditions and opportunities for Pakistan's poor.
There are long-running corruption cases against Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, multi-million-dollar allegations, which date back to the 1990s. He and his late wife, former premier Benazir Bhutto, were accused of using Swiss banks to launder $12 million in alleged kickbacks. Pakistan's supreme court ordered the arrest of the Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, on corruption charges.
Plus any country that can afford nuclear weapons does NOT need our money and Pakistan is believed to have more nuclear warheads than India – 100 to 110.
It is NOT right that the British taxpayer, particularly in these times of austerity, should be shelling out aid and subsidising tax avoidance in Pakistan! Not to mention all the corruption and being able to afford nuclear weapons. It is simply outrageous that we should be giving aid at all to Pakistan, never mind increasing the amount!
The government are cutting services left right and centre, we are suffering because of this yet they send money which could be spent to help the British people to Pakistan. Britain is £2trillion in debt, we are bankrupt. People, families can barely afford to live never mind luxuries, there is homelessness, the elderly and young are suffering, yet the Government are robbing us.
WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH...WE DO NOT GIVE YOU OUR PERMISSION TO USE OUR TAX TO GIVE TO PAKISTAN BY THE WAY OF FOREIGN AID...WE DEMAND ALL BRITISH AID TO PAKISTAN BE STOPPED INSTANTLY.

So much money is needed in this country at the moment with the terrible floods . Help our own people first , even if this is only a temporary withdrawal of aid

We should spend our hard earned and hard saved tax money on improving OUR own public services & growing industry & innovation, here in the UK - NOT on propping up corrupt regressive regimes! This situation is ridiculous.

Feeding corruption is being part of the problem and is never the solution.

The UK cannot afford to fund the world. Any and all aid should be dependent upon agreement that the UK retains the right to audit the utilisation of aid. No agreement to audit, no aid.
