On Saturday 23rd February, two homeless men - Daniel Gauntlett (35) and Douglas Poynton (45) died in the town of Aylesford, Kent. The previous night, Daniel had been arrested for attempting to break in an abandoned bungalow, which was scheduled for demolition. Abiding by the law, the next night, he slept on the bench outside - that night was to prove his last, as he was found dead the following morning, the cause of death...? Hypothermia.
Daniel's 'crime' was to want shelter from the bitter cold (it was -2C the night he died).
How many more homeless people have to lose their lives (or be hit with fines they can't POSSIBLY pay) because this evil govt prize empty, abandoned, derelict properties more highly than human life...?!
Shelter is a basic human right and, therefore, I see the inevitable consequences of this inhumane law as a crime against humanity. If you feel the same, then I URGE you to sign this petition and let the Con-Dems know what you think of their actions. They have the blood of these two men - and who knows how many others - on their hands.
