Release footage of Kelly Thomas Beating by Fullerton Police

    1. Petition by

      Edward Singh

      La Mirada, CA

Kelly Thomas was beaten into a coma by the Fullerton police and died days after July 5, 2011 incident. Eye witnesses said Thomas was Tasered 5 times while being beaten for 10-15 minutes by half a dozen officers. The incident was within range of one of the city’s surveillance cameras at the Fullerton Transportation Center.  I'm sure the cameras on the squad cars captured some of it too.  According to Post by Travis Kiger in The Crime Beat (fullertonsfuture.org) on July 29th, 2011, on John and Ken Show - KFI 640 AM radio  "A man called in purporting to be friends with a Fullerton police officer. He passed along some new, graphic information on what was supposedly seen on the city’s surveillance camera, which the police are still not releasing to the public. Here it is:

  • One officer supposedly beat Kelly Thomas with the butt of his Taser until blood started coming up all over the officer’s arms and hands.
  • Another officer supposedly drop knees Kelly Thomas’ nose and throat with the full force of his body weight multiple times, crushing the victim’s throat.
  • This happened while Kelly Thomas was not moving or resisting.

The footages have not been released and I fear it never will be.  It appears that the Orange County D.A. investigator Stan Berry is close friends with Fullerton police chief Sellers (conflict of interest).  If they choose, they can never show any of it.  We can't leave that up to them.  If the Officers followed protocol then there's no reason not to show the footage. The public deserves to see exactly what happened.  It needs to be made public so something like this never happens again.  No one is above the law, not even a cop.  Need to raise awareness that these footages exist.

If it had been a criminal assaulting an officer, the footage would have been shown, repeatedly, on the news. There is no reason for this evidence not to be shown!

If they've acted properly, why exclude the evidence? Transparency and accountability.... esp for the one 'gang' who is allowed to carry guns: the 'gang' that I -- as a former attorney -- fear more than any other. This is not to say that I think all cops are bad.... but some are monsters. Show us the evidence.

More police brutality and cowardice. Police are slaves to an establishment and they don't even know why.

TAKE THE POWER BACK!! Police are not above the law nor should they be allowed to get away something this horrible.. I was in the Orange County jail with two of the police officers that are being charged with this....let me remind you that is out of six police offcers involved. so 1/3 of the people involved in an innocent man's death are being punished for it... that;s bullshit.. it should be 100% of the people involved!!

Too many cases of this. We have the right to see what these officers did to this man. If it was an officer being beaten they would release it immediately.
