Celebrate the achievements of our African-American students, teachers and leaders in the D.C. region!

    1. Petition by

      Teach For America-D.C. Region

African-American children experience disproportionate levels of poverty in our country, which greatly impact their academic and life opportunities. We know, though, that change is possible, through the efforts of our leaders, teachers and allies in the D.C. region.

Teach For America is committed to ensuring that African-American students and kids of all backgrounds have an opportunity to attain an excellent education.

Teach For America-D.C. Region would like to recognize our outstanding African-American educators and leaders who are impacting the lives of students every day.  Kenneth Robinson (D.C. Region, '93) is one of them.  This year, he was recognized with a Rubenstein Award for Highly Effective Educators at A Standing Ovation for D.C. Teachers. Mr. Robinson joined Teach For America in 1993 and has been teaching at Handley Elementary School in Southeast, Washington for the past 20 years. He shares, "I fell in love with the community and the kids, and I knew I could teach for the rest of my life." He enjoys seeing his students learn to respect the power of education and finds the real payoff comes when he learns about the successes of former students.

Join us as we celebrate Black History Month this February and recognize the accomplishments of African-American children, teachers, school leaders and allies as they strive to provide all kids with a great education.

Show your support for expanding education opportunity for African-American students in the D.C. region and across the country. Sign the pledge today and share it with your friends and family.
