Boycott PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea, A Dog Eating Nation!

    1. Rachel Howard
    2. Petition by

      Rachel Howard

      Charleston, SC

To the President of the International Olympic Committee, Mr. Jacques Rogge and the President of the South Korean PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics, Mr. Jin-Sun Kim,

We ask you to please watch this video!  http://youtu.be/3uR8R8Mu70Q
Albert Schweitzer said, “The thinking person must oppose all cruel customs no matter how deeply rooted in tradition or surrounded by a halo. We need a boundless ethic, which includes the animals also.”

South Korea is the World’s 14th largest economy, yet an estimated 2.5 million dogs and thousands of cats are slaughtered and eaten as “health food” each year. Forced to endure deprivation and unimaginable torment from the moment they are born till the day they are slaughtered; dogs are imprisoned in cramped, rusty, raised cages all their lives with no protection from extreme weather and no water, exercise, or medical care. Their eardrums are often burst to prevent them from barking. In broad daylight, often in front of other live dogs, they are electrocuted, hanged, beaten or burnt to death. This is a profit-driven, tax free, unregulated industry that aggressively promotes the myth that eating a dog (especially the dog’s penis) enhances male virility and giving men energy. Koreans genuinely believe that the more dogs suffer, the more the consumer will enjoy the health benefits and enjoy the meat. Many dogs are sadistically made to experience extreme fear and suffering prior to death. Cats are frequently boiled alive to make tonics believed to treat rheumatism. The demand is so high in South Korea that 30% of the dog meat is now imported from China.

It is hard to believe that a nation such as South Korea, which is one of the major economic powers and boasts one of the highest education levels in the world, is still committing this type of barbaric and despicable brutality in this day and age. But for the millions of dogs and cats that are being slaughtered each year in South Korea’s markets, slaughterhouses, restaurants, dog farms and backyards, it is a tragic reality and a nightmare that they can’t escape from. If South Korea wants to join the civilized nations and be respected as a nation of conscience, they need to strengthen their animal protection law and ban the dog and cat consumption once and for all. This has been going on far too long and it’s time for their government to take a moral leadership for their citizens. Not only does this save the Korean animals from unimaginable suffering, but it will further their economic interest because people of the world will not stop condemning South Korea’s cruelty.

Mahatma Gandhi said, “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”
I will boycott PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics and the South Korean businesses until the South Korean government takes the steps to ban the shameful dog and cat meat trade. We sincerely hope that your organization will stand with us and do what’s right.

------------------------------------

I also urge you to write to the Olympic Committee that we you will boycott PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics.

South Korea's largest and richest companies are also the ones who are massively contributing to the unimaginable suffering of dogs in the South Korean dog meat trade. That's because these companies currently do not have policies against dog and cat consumption and their managements and employees are among the dog eaters of South Korea supporting an illegal industry that profits from cruel abuse and nightmarish cruelty to these helpless animals. You can help change that. Please sign and share this new petition urging these South Korean companies to adopt a policy to ban dog and cat meat consumption! https://www.change.org/petitions/lg-samsung-hyundai-kia-lg-posco-sk-and-all-south-korean-companies-adopt-a-company-policy-to-ban-dog-and-cat-meat-consumption

Take a look at what he said when asked about the South Korean's dog eating at the Sochi Olympic! (Eating dog meat will not be issue in Pyeongchang: chief http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/02/09/us-olympics-pyeongchang-idUSBREA180L420140209)

"There would have been some people eating dog meat back in past days, maybe during the 1988 at the Seoul Olympics but now even around me I do not see anyone eating dog meat," Kim Jin-sun told news agency reporters.

"It cannot be raised at Games time because there is no practice of eating dogs in Korea," he said when asked how he would handle the issue.

"Actually Koreans have this love of animals so this cannot be an issue," said Kim.

It seems that South Korea is not only a country of "Cruelty" and "Indifference" but it's also a country of "Dishonesty"!!! What a shame!
