Autistic People Need Representation on CA Healthcare Task Force

    1. Petition by

      The Autistic Self Advocacy Network

The California Department of Managed Healthcare has announced the composition of its Autism Task Force.  As it currently stands, no autistic people are represented on the 18-person panel which will make key decisions affecting autistic people's healthcare. Moreover, the panel does include an anti-vaccine activist, a person who has made numerous statements dehumanizing autistic people, and two representatives from an organization which has consistently excluded autistic people from its leadership. Autistic people deserve to have a voice in manners that affect us directly, and the panel as currently composed completely fails to give us adequate representation.

I strongly believe people impacted by decisions need to be included in the decision-making process.

I am a Mechanical Engineer with Autism and ADD and how dare you exclude people like me from the Autism Task Force! Do you honestly think that we are any less capable then you to determine OUR future? We know what the issues are and are just as capable (or in MOST cases) MUCH more capable then you!

our contry was started because England was making rules for and about us. We said, "No Taxation without representation!". When many Autistic people are so very capable of speaking up for themselves and others on the spectrum... why would any group, organization or government not encourage them to do so, welcoming their insight and expertise with open arms. "Nothing about us without us", so appropriate.
