Ask for a Strong Sentence Against Patrick's Abuser

Kisha Curtis, the woman who put an emaciated dog (now known as Patrick) in a garbage bag and threw him down the garbage chute in her apartment complex, faces a charge of 4th-degree felony animal cruelty for the torture and torment of a living creature.

New Jersey is not known for their animal cruelty laws. If found guilty of this charge, Ms. Curtis faces 18 months of jail time and a $10,000 fine. The reality is that she will likely not be sentenced to this maximum.

Thousands of people have already called and wrote to Essex County expressing their concern for Patrick and the sentencing his abuser may receive if found guilty. Send a letter to Essex County courts and the prosecutor, letting them know you want to see a strong sentence for Ms. Curtis.

How exciting! The petition is over 10,000 signatures strong in support of requesting a strong sentence against Patrick's abuser. The trial continues tomorrow with Keisha Curtis back in front of the judge. Should she be found guilty for her actions we want the penalty to send a strong message from Newark to New Jersey to the rest of the U.S. that starving and throwing pets away is NOT acceptable.

Progress has been slow in the case against Keisha Curtis, a tactic her defense lawyers are using to keep the trial from advancing. In the meantime, Patrick continues to be safe and happy with his guardians.

Kisha Curtis pled NOT GUILTY in court yesterday and the Defense rejected a plea bargain. Let's send a message that this type of cruelty will not go unpunished and make sure she received the stiffest penalty possible.

    22. The court decision to allow Patrick to remain at GSVS:

This does not solve the question about what organization "owns" Patrick, only clarifies that while the case against Kisha Curtis is open Patrick is evidence. AHS could not prove to the court that Patrick was deprived or under-socialized at GSVS.
