Procam International and Airtel are organising a Delhi half marathon 2012 which will be held on 30 Sept at New Delhi.
It seems like they are discriminating against physically challeneged marathon participants at their events by not providing even basic support and facilities, as they are doing with other participants. To Wheelchair Event participants and their attendants they are only providing participation certificates whereas everyone else gets a chance to get rewards and other benefits.
I am a paraathlete and have won a national award in power lifting from the Govt. of India. I have participated in their past Event and faced the problems. They don't facilitate physically challenegd athletes and they don't encourage/motivate them with any escort assistance, and they don't related accessories i.e. event kit, certificate etc.The escorts are getting no encourgement from the marathon team, even though they play an important role in such events.
I have registered for the event:

They do not have any defined norms and rules for race under Wheelchair category, as per Govt. norms people with disabilities need to be treated equally.
The Delhi Half Marathon, over the years has had sporting luminaries like Daley Thompson, Jackie-Joyner Kersee, Sir Richard Hadlee, Alan Border and Cathy Freeman promote the event as its ambassadors, while its status of the world's richest and most prestigious half marathon has always attracted the world's best long distance athletes, who have returned super fast timings. The men's winner at the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon 2008, Deriba Merga of Ethiopia clocked 59.15 seconds, his timing equalling the world's fastest time for the year, sharing the honour with countryman Haile Gebrselassie. Merga went on to defend his title in 2009, again going under the hour mark, clocking 59.54 seconds.

Join me in telling Procam Interational and Airtl to treat physically challenged people equal, the event is on 30th Setember an we need to ensure that they change their rules and rewards for the physically challenged.
Tell Airtel Delhi Half Marathon to do the following:
1) Provide Tshirts for each and every wheelchair marathon participant
2) Announce rewards for participants of the wheelchair event
3) Make sure that the escorts are given benefits as they play an important role in the participants race.
4) Better facilitation of the event
It's surprising to see Airtel sponsor such an event, which doesn't take care of physically challenged people in india.
