From Petition Creator Anthony Dwyer: Myself and others have involved the local community of Leamington Spa in having a voice about the future of a well known Pub in the town called the Red House which has traded since 1856. The pub has been closed by a developer. On Tuesday the 30th of April 2013 Warwick District Council planning committee refused planning permission for change of use at The Red House as not all planning policies had been met. This petition and other objections helped in our campaign to save the pub and hopefully our experiences will help others to save their local pub whether it be in a village or a town.
The Red House has been trading since 1856 in Leamington Spa. The developer has currently closed the pub and submitted a planning application to the local authority for change of use to Residential flats. The Red House has always had a great reputation for its Real Ale, Atmosphere and has a Huge walled Beer Garden which are hard to come by these days. The pub has held the cask marque for serving great quality ale until 2012 and has also appeared in the good pub guide on numerous occasions. Please can I ask for support to save another of Britains little Gems for the Locals of Leamington Spa and Generations to come!
Warwick District Council Planning Department, Planning Department
Please accept this as my objection to change of use at the Red House Pub in Leamington Spa as it is loss of a community facility and a place of employment. As a community we will also lose use of the pub garden which has always been open to the public therefore making this loss of amenity.
I would like to thank everyone that has signed the online petition to try and save the Red House Pub in Leamington Spa.
Due to the number of objections to change of use at the Red House including this online petition the case officer has sent the application to planning committee.
The committee meeting will be held on TUESDAY 3OTH APRIL FROM 6PM.
If you can come and show support that would be great!
I will represent all views on this application and will speak for a period of 3 minutes. Cllr John Barrott who is the ward Councillor for Willes will also represent our views at the meeting.
Again thank you to everyone for your support!!
Decision-maker Warwick District Council Planning Department responds:
I have used the Red House pub on many occasions and it is a crying shame that it has been run down and then closed its doors. I personally strongly believe this pub could be a very viable pub again if it was run as a free house and free o...
