THE TRANSITIONAL YEAR PROGRAMME: UPDATE
The start of the 2013-2014 year has begun. Due to the support and fight of all of those who have stood by us we have stared the University down, refused to betray our 43 year old history, and, as a result we continue. Over half of our faculty [those designated as part time educators] were told that they would be axed. This was a threat made to force a compliance with the University's plans to dismantle the program. Without the part-time faculty, TYP, the most celebrated access and equity program in Canada of its kind, would have closed. The program stood firm in its opposition. Now those faculty members whose jobs were told would no longer exist, exist. And
as they exist the program exists to support, engage, and [as it has always done] to collaborate with the most marginalized students/communities in a collective journey towards the development of critical consciousness and freedom. We continue this in 2013-2014 but we will need even more support to make sure that we expand and grow.
