Support Right To Know CT and GMO Labeling: Enact HB 5117 Into Law

GMOs have been genetically engineered in a lab to be either herbicide resistant, pesticide producing, or both. The FDA does not require testing of GMOs and no safety studies have been conducted on humans, animals, or the environment. There are currently five widespread GM Food Crops on the market: (1) Soy; (2) Corn; (3) Canola; (4) Cotton; and (5) Sugar Beets. In America today at least 80% of all processed foods contain one or more GMO ingredient. We are completely unaware of this fact because there are NO laws requiring manufacturers to label a food as a GMO. Be aware that GMO ingredients have aliases and they may be difficult to spot. Some hidden GMO ingredients include; aspartame, baking soda, caramel color, corn flour, corn sugar, corn syrup, dextrose, fructose, protein, lecithin, malt, maltodextrin, sorbitol, sugar, soy sauce, soy lecithin, vitamin E, vitamin B12, and xanthum gum. We deserve the right to know what is in our food, a right that the people in 50 other countries including all of Europe, Japan, China, Brazil, and New Zealand already enjoy.

I can only eat mostly organic so more GMO foods means even less foods I can eat. Also Monsanto must be stopped.

GMOs are being studied but the seriously disturbing findings in studies of rats fed GMOS that are coming out are immediately squashed by every university you could name. The reason is that most universities have large budget contributions made by companies like Monsanto and Eli Lilly, and those university heads who are approached with these sorts of results will never let them see the light of day for fear of having their funding pulled. They will even threaten the careers of scientists who propose such research, or browbeat them for jeapordizing the institution.

Furthermore, the FDA and the USDA are plagued by conflicts of interest in which major seats of influence are held by current and former Monsanto employees, associates, lawyers, etc. There can be no certainty of safety of GMOs without substantial, long-term research in varied populations throughout the country. Biotech companies do not want this to happen because they are already known to be UNSAFE for human consumption, and they are fully aware that labeling would start the paper trail necessary for Americans to put them out of business by voting with their dollars against GMOs.

8 out of 10 Americans have said flatly that they would not eat food that they knew was GMO, and I am one of them. I also intend to sign any future petition that allows Americans the right to know what constitutes their food. I intend to protect my beautiful daughter from the type of autrocity that GMOs are, and I believe that all of us have the right to know by PLAIN, CLEAR LABELLING which foods contain ANY GMO INGREDIENTS so that we can be free to choose to avoid them religiously.

Corporate secrecy has to stop. The only way to a healed world is through an educated one. We must change the system of greed which rules the world to a system of healing and living with the earth, rather than continuing the poisoning and destruction of our world.

Consumers have the right to know what is in their foods. GMO "foods" are not natural, and no one knows the extent of damage that may be done to the human body by consuming these modified "foods" over a period of time. Please set the standard by passing this law, Connecticut, and hopefully, other states will be inspired to follow your example.

Realistically, my reason for signing is so that people will, at least, be lied to about one less thing here in America. Oh wait, my bad, it's going to take a while for the whole country to get on the ball. We're only behind 50 or so countries now. So here's to Connecticut, a state that is actually paying attention to issues that should not be issues because this is common sense.

My personal, hopeful reason for signing this petition:

A person has a right to know what they eat and if everything IS labeled then people will gradually realize this crapshit shouldn't be bought anymore and then these crapshit companies will go out of business and then real food will again prevail. Muahaha.

BONUS** People will become more energized to grow their own food and/or invest their time in discovering locally grown markets because they're not being poisoned by crapshit.
