Tell the Obama Administration to Protect Consumer and Farmer Choice

    1. Petition by

      Organic Trade Association

On January 27, the Obama Administration made the damaging decision to approve the unrestricted cultivation of genetically engineered (GE) alfalfa. This means GE alfalfa can be planted without any federal requirements to prevent contamination of organic and non-GE crops. It also means that GE alfalfa does not have to be labeled, making it difficult for consumers to identify and avoid. This decision, to support big business at the expense of individual choice, sets a precedent for future deregulation of GE crops although genetic engineering has not been conclusively proven safe. Don't stand by while well-funded and well-connected biotechnology interests are given the power to eliminate marketplace choice. Demand that President Obama protect your right to choose products free of genetic engineering!

Monsanto and companies like it that are producing genetically altered seeds for profit are convincing farmers that this will increase their yields but this is in fact not the case. Their methods are creating a totally unsustainable farming practice that will lead to starvation for millions of people in the end. It is time to stop these practices and start supporting local production of a variety of food products and seeds that will sustain us in the future.

Please consider asking the folks who own Monsanto and others who want to force GM foods on the American public to demonstrate how 'safe' these foods really are by eating them

. Make Monsanto and anyone else distributing GM foods to label those foods so people who don't want to mess with Mother Nature or eat foods that have been adulterated can see from the label so that such foods can be avoided.
