In the aftermath of tragedies in Aurora, Newtown, and too many other cities across the country, we know more than ever that sensible gun legislation is critical for keeping communities safe. And our leaders have a moral obligation to help reduce the chances of events like these from happening again.
Leaders in Colorado did just that earlier this year by enacting common-sense measures - - including universal background checks - - that are supported by a majority of Coloradans and Americans. These laws only passed because legislators put their constituents’ public safety ahead of their own political safety.
But special interest groups like the National Rifle Association (NRA) have now targeted two of these legislators for an unprecedented recall election -- trying to send a message that support for reasonable gun violence prevention laws will carry a political price. Their hope? That the message will spread far beyond Colorado to the rest of our country’s politicians.
We need to stand up to them.
Send a message to special interest groups that you support common-sense gun safety laws and politicians who do, too. Sign your name and join fellow Democrats. We will send you updates and information about what’s happening and how you can get involved.
