Tell Denmark to stop banning dog breeds

Denmark has one of the most strict dog breed bans in the world. 12 breeds are already banned and 13 more are lined up, making a total of 25 breeds to be banned in the near future. This will make Denmark the country with most breeds banned in the world. There is no indication 25 breeds is even enough.

The discussion in Denmark is getting totally out of hand. While reports surface that despite the current ban, the number of dog bites have increased and the ban is therefore not working, politicians and media are ignoring the facts and call for more breeds to be banned. When vets are reluctant to euthanize healthy animals just because they are part of breed, politicians called upon people to practice "do-it-yourself" euthanization. This message was corrected, yet it shows the sentiment that is present in the country and the horror dogs and dog owners in Denmark are living in.

Shakespeare onces wrote "something is rotten in the state of Denmark". Some hundreds of years later he is proven right. A lot of Danes are against the law and cry out in protest of this outrage. Help the Danes to stop this madness in their country, and let them return to the civilized world once more.

New Danish Dog Act Under Way: 13 Breeds Still Banned

Breeds aside, I feel we all have to start discussing dog safety with our politicians and not the pros and cons of a breed ban. Ask them why we still get bitten. Why dog bites are still on the rise. And not let them get away by making another list.

So it happened. The evaluation of the Danish Dog Act has started. After years of turmoil, peaking in the recent months around cases concerning individual dogs like Thor the mix, Thor the GSD, Fido, and many more - change is looming, now the Danish Minister of Agriculture & Animal Welfare has called in interest-groups to be heard.

Animal welfare for Marlene Harpsøe and the Danish People's Party is not for all. Some animal species and breeds are different than others. Some need to be stigmatized, hunted down, killed and get rid off.

Of course we all want to keep ourselves and our families safe from dangerous dogs but banning breeds is not the way to do it. Any Breed on their own is not necessarily any more dangerous then another. Breeds become dangerous when the environment...

The Danish Kennel Club, lead by chairman Jørgen Hindse, is not speaking out against the breed ban in Denmark, but on the contrary plays an important role in keeping the breed ban alive and argue in favor of enforcement of the law.

Because dog are not to be punished for what people make of them. And this ban will do nothing. Oh I am so wrong - it will do so much! It will kill so many innocent dogs!

Repeal your ban on specific dog breeds. It's not the breeds but poor owners who make bad dogs.

start banning the humans who are responsible for their animals & the proper training that animals need, they dont train themselves the humans train them to be what they are, so just start going after the owner

I don't believe a dog is dangerous because of a specific breed. This attitude is cruel, discriminative and ignorant,..
