Target: Take the high road and save Thanksgiving

I have worked at Target for six years and I really enjoy my job. Thanksgiving, though, is one of the three days us retail workers get off a year: a day most all of us spend with family we only get to see on that day. I have no problem with Black Friday. I thought it was interesting the first year I worked the 4am opening. Last year's opening at midnight was pushing it. By the time I left around 8am, I was absolutely exhausted.

I am a recent transplant to California with my boyfriend. I don't have any family out here and having to work on Black Friday prevents me from going home to the east coast to see my family. My boyfriend does have some family out here so Thanksgiving is the one day we get to spend with people we know. I currently work two jobs, substitute teaching and work Target at nights and weekends, so having Thanksgiving off really does give me that one day to relax and visit family I otherwise have no time to see.

I just heard that one of Target's top competitors, Walmart, will open at 8pm on Thanksgiving this year. Since workers need to show up sometimes hours before the story officially opens, this will take much of Thanksgiving away from retail employees across the country. Target can take the high road and save Thanksgiving for employees like me and our families by saying no to "Thanksgiving Creep."  Will you join me and ask Target to give Thanksgiving back to families and not open on Thanksgiving evening?

Thanksgiving is one holiday/holy day that has not been ruined by retail until this last Thanksgiving. Opening stores on Thanksgiving Day should be forgotten altogether..it is hard enough for families to carve out time for themselves these days without making it harder...give a three day holiday to those who wish to take it...please...

All stores should be closed on Thanksgiving. I think it should go back to closed on Sunday's also. Just like it was years ago so family can spend time together. That's what we did because all stores where closed on Sundays. Think this is what this country needs. Times where better and had more respect for family. This is what we all need. Take a step back.

Not only are you ruining Thanksgiving for the workers, but also families that want to relax together but are competing against the hype of a once in a lifetime sale. Please let's give thanks and keep families together!
