President Obama recently released his proposed budget for 2013. Congress will begin considering, debating, and deciding next year’s budget in the coming weeks, so now is the time for you to weigh in.
Make sure your Members of Congress know that the fight to end malaria is a priority for you.
In the last decade, the U.S. has led the way in the movement to end malaria -- from supporters like you to your elected officials. Thanks to innovative global partnerships, American efforts to fight malaria have been able to make significant progress, in a cost-effective way.
Learn the facts:
• Half of all families in sub-Saharan Africa have at least one bed net, and 96 percent of families who have a bed net, use it.
• The World Health Organization reports that malaria rates have plummeted by more than a third in the past decade.
• Two years ago, a child in Africa died every 30 seconds from malaria. Now, it’s a child every 60 seconds -- but just one death from a preventable disease is too many.
We’re making progress, but we need to maintain momentum to reach the global goal of ending malaria deaths by 2015.
Send a letter to your Members of Congress today and tell them to support funding to end deaths from malaria.
