Stand Up for Stronger Fracking Regulation

When the air in Wyoming gets smoggier than the air in Los Angeles, you know something has gone wrong.

That "something" is the oil and gas industry.

In the drilling rig-studded Upper Green River Basin of Wyoming, levels of smog-forming ozone reached 123 parts per billion earlier this year—worse than the worst day in Los Angeles all last year.

It’s not just the people of Wyoming who are noticing a problem. A controversial technology called hydraulic fracturing—or fracking—has led to a gas drilling boom from Colorado to Pennsylvania. But federal air pollution standards for drilling are woefully outdated and do not cover most pollution sources. That means that people who live near the gasfields are left with lung-burning smog and cancer-causing benzene.

But with your help, we can change that. Under a set of rules proposed by the Environmental Protection Agency, oil and gas drillers would be required to use equipment to capture significant amounts of air pollution before it can harm public health.

Some extreme members of Congress have been making it hard for the scientists at the EPA to do their job lately. That’s why the EPA needs to hear from you, to let them know that no matter what the anti-science extremists say, the public supports strong air quality protections.

Send a message to the EPA today declaring your support for protecting our air from dangerous fracking pollutants.

This is an incredibly short term fix to a long term problem. The full effects are not yet know, but the ones that have been discovered come with serious consequences. Polluting water for oil is incredibly stupid, we can survive without oil, we cannot live without water.

Allowing the poisonous fracturing of our planet for corporate profit should be stopped now. The slithering parasites of the Oil and Gas Industry seek to suffocate and bleed our world dry. Our government effectively supports that slow death when they fail to investigate, regulate, and end the contamination of the very air we breathe and our precious water, the lifeblood of every living thing on earth. Stop Hydraulic Fracking!

A list of the chemicals that have been used was published in a U.S. House of Representatives Report.[21] Some of the chemicals pose no known health hazards, some others are known carcinogens, some are toxic, some are neurotoxins. For example: benzene (causes cancer, bone marrow failure), lead (damages the nervous system and causes brain disorders), ethylene glycol (antifreeze, causes death), methanol (highly toxic), boric acid (kidney damage, death), 2-butoxyethanol (causes hemolysis). Never knew about this operation until a fracking operation was set up half a block from my home and they started operations 24/7. Then started investigating because of the noise and that was the least of my problem. It's insane doing this in a state with clean water shortages and clean air. Why are the villians allowed to do this!!!!
