Scrap VAT on five-a-side football

    1. Petition by

Five-a-side football is a fantastic way to get people to exercise regularly and participation is growing. The Government should be making it easier for people to play sport, not taxing them for doing so.

    4. First victory?!

Tax officials on Friday gave the strongest indication so far they would not land five-a-side leagues with a backdated VAT bill for four years. But the exchequer appeared to backtrack just a few hours later, saying only that “paying VAT arrears will always depend on the exact circumstances of each case”.

So we're keeping going! Please encourage your friends and teammates to support us.

I want to continue playing 5 a side football, however I am slowly being phased out of it due to the amount that it costs.

How on earth are kids going to take up sport when sport gets taxed. The cretin who decided that this would be a good idea needs to be put up against a wall and shot, have this government no shame.

With the growing obesity problem the government are being short sighted in the need to raise immediate revenue. A 5% surcharge on keeping fit for the cost to be outweighed on the longer term impact to the NHS. In times of austerity this will make the difference on participation not to mention the reduced revenue received by the providers of the majority of facilities - schools.
