We, riders of public transportation, urge the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to restore our Union Street bus, the B71. This bus provided safe and reliable transportation for students, easy access to major Brooklyn cultural institutions such as the Brooklyn Public Library, the Brooklyn Museum, and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and cross-town transportation for the many residents of the Columbia Street Waterfront District, Carroll Gardens, and Park Slope. The B71 also provided cross-town transportation vital for workers, needed doctors’ appointments for families, and senior residents. Without the B71 there is no easy way to reach these areas. It now takes 3 buses or a train and 2 buses to reach these destinations.

Assemblywoman Millman will be testifying at the MTA Board meeting on Wednesday July 25th. She will be advocating for the restoration of the B71 so we need all the signatures we can get! Please sign and share with all your friends. Deadline for signatures is Tuesday July 24th.

Dear supporters of the B71 bus,

I wanted to thank everyone who signed my petition to bring back the B71/Union Street bus- a crucial cross-borough link for workers, seniors, students and all community members. The B-71 provided the only link between the Columbia Street Waterfront District, Carroll Gardens, Gowanus, Park Slope and Crown Heights.

In just one week we collected 1500 signatures online and in person. Yesterday I testified before the MTA board and explained how important this bus was to the community. A link to the testimony is below.

Thank you very much for your advocacy and help.

      Sincerely,

great cross transfer bus. also, the community doesn't nec. have the money to take alternate transportation like car services. also, for those for whom it is hard to walk, subway stairs and walking long distances between stops is difficult. the bus stops every few blocks and really helps alleviate that!
