Prioritize safer streets in the wake of tragedy - Cliffside Drive and surrounding neighbourhood

Today a five year old girl was run over by a city garbage truck on Cliffside Dr. This neighbourhood does not have marked cross walks, crossing guards in the school area or sidewalks. These safety measures may have prevented this tragedy!

To:
Gary Crawford, City Councillor Ward 36
I support the City of Toronto installing sidewalks and implementing the needed safety measures on Cliffside Dr to protect pedestrians. Sidewalks in this neighbourhood are long over due and in the wake of tragedy and the need is immediate.

Sincerely,
[Your name]

I grew up in this neighbourhood and often had to walk the sidewalk-less streets to and from school. This family-oriented neighbourhood needs to be made safer for children.

This is my neighborhood and I feel unsafe walking in the streets.

I live in the Cliffside area and feel unsafe when walking in the street. There are no sidewalks on Ridgemore Avenue where I have to walk every day. This is unsafe for everyone, especially children.

Before we rush ahead and say we want sidewalks, to all the residents of my neighbourhood, think what this will mean to your driveways, by requesting sidewalks you will reduce the size of your driveway by half. Where will you be parking either your second or third car? There are other safety measures that can be put into place, and sidewalks are not the only answer. I am heartbroken that this little girl was struck down and died. This accident happened as a result of stepping down from the curb and crossing the street, even with sidewalks this may have happened. May God bless Kayleigh. Therefore before anything gets done all the residents on this and surrounding streets should be consulted with all the facts.
