Combat trafficking and slavery connected to Olympic events.

This summer London will play host to an estimated 5 million visitors as the eyes of millions around the globe will be trained on the world’s top athletes at the 2012 Olympic Games. The Olympics are an opportunity for the citizens of the world to unite in celebration of the best of the human spirit: dedication and discipline, mutual understanding, fair play and solidarity.

But they also expose a darker side of human nature: for international sporting events and the large audiences they draw are also potential venues for the exploitation of the world’s most vulnerable citizens via the deplorable practice of human trafficking and modern day slavery.

    2. Thank you!

ICCR wanted to send out a heartfelt “thank you” to the almost 900 (and counting!) of you who helped us send a powerful message to Jacques Rogge, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) urging him to help keep the Olympic Games free of the specter of human trafficking and modern day slavery. The letter you sent requested that the IOC implement formal guidelines for all its business partners, including Olympic sponsors that would raise awareness and eradicate these egregious human rights violations from the Games and beyond. We launched our Celebration without Exploitation petition Thursday, June 14 and due to an overwhelming response from all of you, ICCR received a letter from the Committee the very next day.
