Veto the "Anti-Protester" Bill

The U.S. House and Senate have both recently passed bills that place crushing new restrictions on the First Amendment rights of all Americans. This legislation puts new limitations in place that charge protesters with federal crimes if they protest on federal grounds, at any location in which someone protected by the Secret Service (the President, a former President, a Presidential candidate, or any number of domestic or international figures), or at any location sanctioned as being of "national significance" -- including the Democratic and Republican conventions and even Super Bowl XXXVI.

H.R. 347 and S.B. 1794 *severely* limit the ability of Americans to exercise their First Amendment rights to speech and assembly -- and destroy the long tradition of American protest. We are calling on President Obama to veto this legislation, and to stand up for those who wish to participate in the political process in deep and powerful ways.

You can see an overview of the legislation here -- http://rt.com/usa/news/348-act-tresspass-buildings-437 -- and you can see the text of the House or the Senate bills by searching Thomas here: http://thomas.loc.gov/home/Browse.php?n=bills&c=112.

    1. Bill passed -- join us next week to learn more about implications

By now, you've probably heard -- President Obama has signed the "Anti-Protester" bill (http://rt.com/usa/news/trespass-bill-obama-secret-227/). This is a disappointing development, of course, but we want to make sure that everyone knows what this means for your work.

Next Wednesday (March 21) at 7pm ET / 4pm PT, we're hosting an open conference call for anyone interested in learning more about the implications of this legislation. We'll have two experienced lawyers on the call -- Ann Wilcox and Sue Udry -- who will be able to give some guidance on new regulations and considerations.

To join the call, go to this link -- http://bit.ly/xuJEFy -- and either create a log-in for yourself (not required) or join the call next Wednesday as a "Quick Caller." Either is totally fine, but we need to use Calliflower in order to have enough room on the call for everyone.

Please feel free to share this link with anyone you think would like to join the call!!

The forefathers of our country especially Thomas Jefferson stood behind the Constitution. He stood behind free speech, freedom of press, freedom of religion. The forefathers of the United States stood behind the people's right to protest any wrong doings of their government because when few have power that's when it's no longer really a republic. As future journalist I cast my vote on this petition.
