Use the phrase "military budget" and not "defense budget"

    1. Petition by

      Steven Lapham

      Gaithersburg, MD

The bloated U.S. military budget does not protect our shores, or our freedoms. It funds corporations (in the military-industrial complex) that ought to get busy fixing our nation's infrastructure, creating renewable energy, and restoring air, land, and waterways.

I object to using the word "defense" when our military is used only for offense, for aggression against other countries and peoples. Let's have some truth in language.

MLK Jr. said the USA was the biggest purveyor of violence on the planet. We still are. "Defense" is the wrong word for a country which wages one undeclared aggressive war after another.

We need to be clear that our military budget is far greater that what we need to defend our borders!

Let's call it what it is, military spending, plain and simple. We did not need to invade Iraq, though we bought the sharade--- lock stock, barrel, bombshell, grenade, missile, and AK-47.
