Provide the Adequate Funding for Special Needs Adults and Children

The funding that families have received in the past from SSAH and Passport assisted families to provide quality of life for the special needs children and adults in our communities. The government's recent changes to this system - a change that families have not supported, and in fact recommended that more funds be allocated for all of the children and adults across Ontario. The wait lists for the funding started in 2007 and the lists continue to grow! Now the government as of April 2012, the SSAH funding for children who turn 18 yrs of age, has ended funding for these people. We need to tell the Government that we will not Accept these conditions, and fight for the children and adults who need this support!!!

I care for my 19 year old brother who has Down Syndrome....Everyone DESERVES to have access to supports to live their life as THEY choose. It is not up to the Government or any Agency to act as parent to all! WE are the EXPERTS, not them.

I have a down syndrome girl who is 21 yrs old.. we live in the country... she wants to go and do and be at events.. The amount of money I receive for a worker equals less than 4 hrs a week!!! That wont even cover a comm. living dance.. she needs constant supervision when out.. As she gets older, she wants more of a life.. I have another child, and a husband.. and I suffer from crohns disease.. running her to her events has put a toll on our family..but doesn't she deserve a life???... If we could get the proper funding.. we would never, and I mean never even consider using a group home..

I have to admit that I have lost my ssah funding due to not reapplying due to personal family reasons. I have not reapplied as it seems pointless to do all this paper work just to be put on a waitlist. I can use my time to be with my children.
