Save Bridge Nursery

    1. Petition by

      Maidstone Liberal Democrats

Bridge Nursery is a piece of land, just over the size of two football pitches in Allington (North west Maidstone). This area has been untouched by human development for over 40 years and so has returned to a “wild” state. The area is popular for dog walkers, outdoor recreation and BMX riders. It’s primary importance, however, is as a nature reserve. Being undisturbed for so long: Bridge Nursery has become a haven for animals and plants, including several rare species. These species include, but not limited to: Shrews, Lizards, Bats, Kestral, Orchids and the unflatteringly named, but vitally important: Cudweed

This is all under threat by Maidstone Borough Council’s “Local Development Framework”, which plans to build 165 houses on the site. Not only will this create an urban sprawl with no discernible barriers from Maidstone to Bearsted, it will wipe out this ecological sanctuary that we are so lucky to have in our back garden.

We are campaigning to stop this from happening, and this small website is one of our many tools. If you would like to know more please read through the evidence provided and offer your support in any way you can. Together we can stop this development and save Bridge Nursery.

To:
Maidstone Borough Council
We, the undersigned, call upon Maidstone Borough Council to withdraw the Bridge Nursery site in Allington from Maidstone’s Local Plan housing allocation in view of its importance as a natural habitat. We believe it should be allowed to stay in its unspoilt natural state as at present and managed perpetually for the future as a Local Nature Reserve, freely accessible to local residents.

Sincerely,
[Your name]

Regenerate the town centre before you build on green belt. These sites MUST be preserved for future generations.

I love to enjoy natural habitats.

It is very important to retain these green areas for local residents and wildlife. We must learn from previous mistakes in developing brick and tarmac jungles and the social problems they create. Please do not develop this small oasis.

Our countryside is being swallowed up and our life is less because of it. Keep immigrants out if that is a reason for this housing explosion .How will people get mortgages for them ? I am so sad our green belt is being discarded it is criminal .

We need to make more use of some of the areas within town which are still not being used effectively; the area of 'Bridge Nursery' is very important in terms of the wild natural environment; we need to keep it there and look after it.
