Justice for LAPD shooting victims Emma Hernandez & Margie Carranza

    1. Petition by

      marissa martinez

71-year old Emma Hernandez and 47 year-old Margie Carranza were shot by police on the morning of February 8th, 2013, while delivering newspapers in Torrance. Carranza was shot in the hand while her mother, Hernandez, sustained two bullet-wounds to her back and remains in critical condition.

The officers shot Hernandez and Carranza's vehicle upwards of 46 times, of which 3 bullets hit the women. According to the LAPD, those officers believe the women's vehicle matched the description of Christopher Dorner, who is currently wanted for murder. However, the women's vehicle nor color matched Dorner's. According to the lawyer Glen T. Jonas, the police did not give the women any chance to surrender: "they didn't make any attempt to match the description and they used deadly force without giving anyone in that car an opportunity to surrender. You have two basic violations of protocol and the result is that because of that, they are endangering citizens."

We would like the LAPD to admit full responsibility and fault for hastily shooting a vehicle of the wrong make and color, two petite women that did not match the description of the 270-pound male they were searching for. We also believe Emma Hernandez and Margie Carranza should be fully compensated for medical bills, psychological trauma, property damage, lost work, and suffering.

All laws should be EQUALLY applied to ALL citizens. If they have not punishment for what they did it just gives them carte blanche to keep doing it.

The police are supposed to respect and follow the law.To skip procedure and gun down innocent people is despicable and goes against everything they are trained for. They are supposed to stand for the law and instead they broke it with the attempted murder of innocent people. They should not be treated any differant than a common criminal since they went against procedure and be prosecuted for attempted murder at the very least.
