ROLDA view regarding the recent law voted in Romania
-which states that it depends on each local authority if the streets dogs within their community will be euthanized or kept in shelters-
Dogs place is not on the streets where these voiceless souls are exposed to all kind of (deadly) dangers and humans abuses, where dogs might attack and hurt at their turn people crossing their territory.
The OUG 155/ 2001 demanded strict rules for a shelter to function in Romania, most of the shelters, which are currently full of dogs don’t respect these conditions. The pounds administrated by the local authorities were and are, most of them (if not all) a disaster.
After 10 years since the OUG 155/2001 was applied, little or no results were shown in Romania, as a whole.
Sterilization is a solution for future, but in the present time, millions dogs are roaming all over the country, abused, sick and hungry. Sterilized or not, the truck still can kill dogs, often placed in the middle of the road (to eat the remains of another dead body)
