Butte County ranks second among the 58 counties in California for the rate at which it sentences its convicted inmates to jail time, according to the map, which was made public July 30.
The results are calculated per 1,000 adult felony arrests, which compensates for the higher prison populations in larger counties, said Selena Teji, a communications specialist with the institute.
