Help StartUp San José and pass the “Open for Business” incentive package!

In cities across America, we’ve seen that activating our Main Streets can re-energize our neighborhoods, bringing foot traffic, local jobs, vibrancy and even a reduction in crime. We support the passage of an “Open for Business” incentive package in San José to fill ground floor vacant parcels in our Neighborhood Business Districts, Strong Neighborhood Initiative areas and Downtown.

Our idea is simple - where landlords of long-vacant, street-facing storefronts are willing to reduce their asking lease rates, City Hall should waive permit fees for new businesses seeking to get up and running, and expedite the process.

As concerned citizens we are urging our leaders to act now to bring new jobs and businesses to our Main Streets.  We believe that improving our local economy is a team effort, and when we get our storefronts bustling and support local businesses we all win.

San Jose has an incredible amount of potential - look at what we have. A major university, wonderful parks and a rail and bus system that will continue to grow and improve. A hockey team that is doing great, the 49ers that San Jose will no doubt support more than any other city. We need to continue to improve the downtown area - cleaner, safer, more parking, we have nice museums and art exhibits - we are not going to be San Francisco nor should we try to be but lets make San Jose a great place to live and raise a family.

It is very simple - have more jobs, more dollars created, better environment to live and hopefully less crime and if not the potential to hire police.

This is important to me because revitalizing downtown is the best way to stop crime from paralyzing people into thinking that downtown is a dangerous place, which is NOT TRUE. Business activity is great for healthy cities and great for getting people to come downtown to see art and walk in the parks, go to museums, plays, and restaurants. It's the best place in San Jose.

We need to incentivize businesses to come to downtown. Our small business, Array Interactive, came with a vision to be part of a revitalization process and center our business in what we believed to be the heart of the technology world. But if the heart does not have viable network and internet capabilities in this new world economy then we will rapidly face economic challenges in this vital downtown area.
