At the present moment Facebook has two gender options: Male or Female. Most users click on one or the other and it is no problem for them. However, some Facebook users are torn between what is a simple choice for other people. The genderqueer and transgendered community, would like to ask for a gender-neutral option. Users would have a third option of "Other" when asked what their gender is. Instead of "She/he changed her/his profile", it would say " If "so and so" changed a profile then facebook should say the profile associated with "so and so" has been changed. In addition to this, there should be a "Sibling" option as well instead of only brother and sister or  "parent" option in addition to just "mother" and "father", plus "relative" or "family member" in addition to "aunt" and "uncle".. With this addition, more people can feel comfortable on Facebook instead of feeling like they don't belong.

The addition of the "other" option educates others on non-conformist gender identifiers and helps me personally, as I identify between genders.

As many options as possible should always be available, even if they won't be used by everyone. Facebook is a social network; accordingly, everyone should have the option to be part of it. Facebook also requires (prefers?) "genuine" information to be displayed (real names, etc.), and for many, ticking the F or the M box feels deceptive. It's a logical choice to allow another option.

Because I identify as a gender fluid person myself.

This is the entire reason why I have no gender specified on FB AND hate listing family members. Don't restrict people to the gender binary. It is /not/ all-inclusive.
