Last weekend a group of civilians alongside some hardened, barrel chested freedom fighters carried a 1,000 lbs bench up the Manitou Incline in memory of SSG David Dunlap and his Wife and Unborn Child.

We found out just hours ago that the city's Parks and Recreation Department wants to have it removed because a permit wasn't issued. We need everyone's voice on this. We have the support of the people and some of its politicians but we need much more help in keeping the memorial where it was placed. We can't put into words what everyone did and it truly showed what a community, large or small, can accomplish; coming together for the sake of someone else.

Please sign the petition and help.

Please do your part and sign this petition in support of the SSG David Dunlap Memorial atop the Manitou Incline. Allow us to honor our fallen war fighters in suitable and respectable fashion.

Sincerely,

We have just given an interview to the local news discussing what we did and why we did it. It was brief, but to the point.

A landscape designer for COS has reached out, she is discussing locations where we could feasibly relocate the bench. Unfortunately the US Forrest Service is taking a hard line approach to this, and thus far are not showing signs of yielding to a permit process (they don't have one). It just doesn't look like it is going to be able to stay put, but COS wants to help us, and favor keeping the tribute rather than destroying it.

You should also know we have a US Senator, and Congressman interested in keeping it right where it is.

We will try to bring their pressure to bear on the Forrest Service.

      We aren't giving up.

You're about to see people from EVERY state in the Union voice their support for a single cause, a single representation of love, support, and gratitude towards one man, his wife and unborn child. If THAT isn't the very essence of what it means to be an American, I don't know what is.

It is something that took a struggle to get up there, I am sure it was not easy. The sweat and pain to bring it should not be taken away. It is so beautiful from the pictures I have seen and when I go there for the first time here in the next month I would love to see it still sitting on the trail where it belongs.

Dave was a fellow Army Aviator and AH-64D Armament Dawg. He served honorably and was cut down tragically in the prime of his life. He chose to live in Colorado Springs, and it would be fitting tribute to ALL who served to keep the memorial in place

Recognition of our soldiers, both standing and fallen, past, present and future, should be nurtured and supported. This city has a huge military and veteran populace. Would you take away the hope of any of them to return home to such a majestic view and loving community? Keep the dream alive and allow the bewnch to stay to remind our troops that we, Colorado Springs and its communities, support and value their hard work, both foreign and domestic.
