Campbell Newman and the LNP: Don't Break our Schools

    1. Petition by

      Kevin Rudd MP

Recognising that our schools are embedded in our local communities and possess unique cultures, we call on Premier Newman to immediately withdraw his proposal to amalgamate Brisbane State High School and Coorparoo Secondary College.

I am proud of our Australian education system which is universal, free and secular. Any attempt by Tories to dismantle this upsets me.

Local schools are an important part of local community. Strong, healthy, local communities lead to strong, creative, healthy states and nations. Amalgamations dilute local community identity and force growth on local schools.

We know BSHS is bursting at the seams - stick to the plan and spend the allocated 40 million in South Brisbane and stop selling off our state owned land that we will need for infrastructure in the next 30 years! This makes long term economic sense for local domestic economies as well as the states. Don't make BSHS a victim of its own success - make new educational success stories all over QLD! Don't break the model - create a new one elsewhere!

My Aspergers daughter and I moved up here from Coffs Harbour for better support services and education. Not a good time for her to be worrying about changes, new school etc.

Coorparoo is an excellent small school with wonderful staff and students who share a warm, caring environment.
