it has been well documented that mercury vapor is continually emitted from the dental amalgam and dramatically increases by chewing, eating and brushing. Mercury has damaging effects on the kidneys, central nervous and cadiovascular systems. Associations between mercury and long latency disease such as multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's disease have been made. The FDA is trying to find an acceptable level of a toxic substance But this approach does not take into consideration the cummulative toxic burden carried by the individual throughout the life span The bottom liine is that this debate has been going on for at lease 10-15 years. It is time for the FDA  to do it's job of protecting the American public.  FIRST DO NO HARM.

The picture shows mercury vapor being released from a toooth with a mercury amalgam.

Why are you not doing something to protect the very people you are supposed to protect? Why are you not doing your jobs?

10-15 years is a very long time to ALLOW this practice therfore, condone it.

Be part of the solution, it is 2012.

You can do better than this, yes?

It is unconscionable that absent scientific

Proof of safety for children under the age of 6 and pregnant women mercury fillings are still in use. Arguably, mercury fillings are not appropriate at any age.

I have studied this subject for more than 30 years and am a practicing mercury-free dentist. I have seen first hand how destructive this poison can be to my patients lives and to those who love them. I wrote the book Mercury-Free for the dental consumer and have talked on the issue well over 160 times both nationally and internationally. It is past time for this outdated poison to be banned from dentistry permanently. It has absolutely no rational basis to be mashed into human teeth and chewed upon for years, all the while releasing mercury continously into the unfortunate patient. There have been better materials available for years. There is no excuse for this to continue. Several countries have already seen fit to ban mercury. How long will it take the USA to ban it?

purposely putting heavy metals that don't belong in your body is an open invitation for an auto immune reaction, be it big i.e. Parkinson's or a chronic inflammatory lifelong response.

Why put a poisonus material in the mouth when there are other good options? At one time it was thought that the skin was an impenterable barrier. It has since been found to be so permeable, it is used to transport medications via a patch.
