Marise Payne, act now to #BringJamesRicketsonHome or my innocent father will die in jail

VICTORY! James Ricketson is now free, thanks in no small part to everyone who signed this petition. Dad wants to thank you all for your ongoing support, we couldn't have done it without you. Now, we hope that we can channel that incredible energy: we want to get impoverished Cambodian families out of the rubbish dumps they live in, and into homes. Visit Family by Family to learn how you can help.  My Australian adopted dad, James Ricketson has the kindest heart - yet he’s holed up in a Cambodian prison without even having committed a crime. Unless the Australian government responds quickly, my innocent dad could die in jail. I’m petrified - every day matters now as he gets sicker. I’m so worried for dad’s rapidly deteriorating health - He is almost 70  frail and squashed in a tiny cell with 140 others. It’s so cramped, they have to take it in turns to lie down. Body lice are eating him alive. Dad is an Australian documentary maker/journalist. His only crime is kindness and using his award winning documentaries to portray the truth. The Cambodian government is holding him indefinitely without charge for the ridiculous and untrue accusation of espionage / spying as an Australian citizen - which carries 15 years. All he did was fly a drone over an opposition party rally, which isn’t even illegal. There is a new Foreign Minister – Marise Payne – who hasn’t made up her mind on James’ case yet. Dad was making a documentary about Australia’s abused street kids when he adopted me and loved me as his own daughter. He saved my life. He was one of the first men in my life to show me kindness but now the Australian government has turned their back on him.

Bring Hazem Home

UPDATE: On Wednesday 6th of March, Hazem was released from police custody. When he tried to leave with his daughter and return to Australia, he was turned back and denied exit. He's remains stuck in Cairo. We're now petitioning for Australian authorities to do more to assist Hazem and Saja to come home. We will not rest until Dad is back in Brisbane.                                                                  * * * Last year, our dad was arrested and jailed in Egypt after he flew to Cairo to join us for a family holiday.Needless to say, this devastated our family.Egypt has been known for undertaking random arrests and throwing people in jail while they say they are doing investigations to find evidence. Our dad has now been in Tora Prison in Cairo for a year and we are scared we might never see our dad again. We waited for a year to see if the Egyptian authorities would either release or charge dad, but no evidence has ever been presented to justify him being in prison. And so he remains in limbo and alone in prison, thousands of kilometres away from his family. We don’t want to wait anymore. We want the Australian authorities to do more to help us find a resolution for our father and to bring him home. Since no evidence has been shown, we want dad released and brought back home to Australia. It is a grave perversion of justice to imprison a man without evidence or a clear reason. Help us bring our family back together by signing this petition and demanding that the Australian government stand up for its multicultural citizens. We love our dad and we miss him immensely, all we want to do is have him home with us again.*Note: All donations at are directed to promoting the petition and supporting They are not given to the family.

Government funding for epilepsy

South Australia and the Northern Territory are the only states in Australia that do not receive Government funding to support children and families living with epilepsy. 63,000 people live with epilepsy in South Australia and 8,000 in the Northern Territory. The Epilepsy Centre continues to provide support and services to those affected funded solely by private donations. Epilepsy can be a devastating condition to manage and the support The Epilepsy Centre provides to the community is an absolute necessity. The suicide rate among youth living with epilepsy is 25% higher than the general population, due to difficulties in securing employment, maintaining friendships and holding a driver’s license. It is a life of uncertainty, confusion, isolation and embarrassment which no one should have to endure. Epilepsy can affect anyone at any age. Epilepsy is not just falling to the ground and shaking. A seizure can kill. The Epilepsy Centre is a professional organisation committed to providing quality services to people living with epilepsy and improving community awareness and attitudes throughout South Australia and the Northern Territory. The team at The Epilepsy Centre have been helping people since for over 40 years and we work continuously to raise awareness of epilepsy in the community to reduce stigma and create a more welcoming and inclusive society. Our key services include: Counselling Advocacy Epilepsy Management Support Care Plan Development NDIS Support Home and Residential Care Visits Employment Support Resources Workshops Clinics Epilepsy Training for Families, Schools and Workplace In hospital Support Collaboration and networking with other agencies Risk Assessments Epilepsy First Aid Training Emergency Medication Training Annual Camps Epilepsy Education for - Schools, Workplaces, Sports Groups, Disability and Support Workers, Community Organisations, Family and Friends The cost of service delivery is incredibly high yet we strive to go above and beyond to supply children and families with necessary medical equipment designed to protect people from their seizures. For over two years The Epilepsy Centre has donated almost 60 Seizure Monitors to children in need. These monitors are placed on the child's bed and can detect movements similar to seizures, which then sounds a loud alarm to alert loved ones. Each seizure monitor costs $1000, which most families can not afford. We have also donated equipment such as Oximeters, life jackets, ice vests, helmets and specially designed wheel chairs. Our mission and vision is to improve in all respects the welfare of people with epilepsy and their families in South Australia and The Northern Territory. We aim to: Educate the public to accept persons with epilepsy as equal citizens and encourage greater public understanding Remove any discrimination from persons with epilepsy and/or their families Advise and help persons with epilepsy, and their families Represent persons with epilepsy in being accepted with education authorities and all employer organisations Promote and provide information on epilepsy by way of pamphlets, advertising, films, articles, discussion and lectures to public and professional groups and the community Support research programmes and seminars into medical and social aspects of epilepsy Government funding would enable us to employ additional full-time nurses, social workers and counsellors to manage the enormous workload. These workers would help reduce hospital admissions, give families and individuals much needed support, train schools and workplaces and help improve community understanding - effectively ending the appalling stigma associated with seizures. It's time to recognise that epilepsy is indeed a Chronic Health Condition and to provide much-needed funding for The Epilepsy Centre. For more information please visit: or Or like us on facebook

We deplore the action of the Australian government in voting with the US in opposing the UN Human Rights Council inquiry into the slaughter of over 100 Palestinians in Gaza and the maiming of many thousands. Palestinians were merely protesting eleven years of siege and blockade and the destruction of people, land, homes, schools, hospitals, electricity, sewage and water treatment plants. We are aware that Prime Minister Turnbull considers the values of Israel and Australia to be the same: derisory about international law, indifferent to human rights, and rejecting the ideals of a common humanity. Instead of supporting Israeli violence towards the Palestinian people, we ask the Australian government to uphold its claim to support the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by displaying a modicum of courage and condemning the latest Israeli slaughter and opposing its illegal occupation, oppression, killing with impunity and other systematic human rights violations. We support the Palestinian people's right to resistance, freedom, justice and self determination. We call on the Australian government to join the international community by calling for an immediate end to the eleven year Israeli siege of Gaza, the Occupation of the West Bank and East Jerusalem and the ongoing discrimination and dispossession of Palestinian people.

Australian Labour Party: Block construction of Australia's biggest coal mine

An Indian multi-national corporation Adani, wants to build one of the worlds biggest coal mines near Australia's iconic Great Barrier Reef in tropical North Queensland.  A rail line from the mine is also proposed to transport coal to the coast.  If it goes ahead, it will increase coal shipping through the Great Barrier Reef dramatically.   Right now, the Australian senate is debating whether to change the Native Title Act, a law recognising Aboriginal rights and interests to their land.  If the Australian Labour Party backs the changes, construction on the mine is likely to begin in August. Coal from the mine will be shipped half way around the world to furnaces in India, emitting millions of tons of carbon during the lifespan of the mine.  Scientific research links carbon emissions from fossil fuels like coal, to the worst ever coral bleaching event on the Great Barrier Reef (see Hughes et al., 2017 below).  Australia can not risk further destruction of the worlds most bio-diverse ecosystem.  Nor can it risk the tens of thousands of jobs that depend on the Great Barrier Reef. This is a call to Australians and the world, to demand the ALP to block all changes to the Native Title Act in the Australian senate immediately! Your signatures can help persuade leaders to act, stop the Adani coal mine, and help preserve the Great Barrier Reef. Please sign now! For more information, see the links below: 09/05/2017 - Hughes et al., 2017 -

Punishment for misleadingPaternity, and remedies for falsely accused men, state restitution

Paternity Fraud, welfare fraud, presenting false statements to government officials,  falsifying governmental documents,  slander, defamation, and libel, are some examples of crimes. Some are punishable by law and some by civil liability, all are laws that should make and hold all peolpe accountable for such actions. Then there are more unconventional categorizations like " pick a name government assistance, every one child has three fathers, Non-submissive fathers make fatherless children, or my personal favorite "he don't love you because of his other kids". Ignorance and blatant disregard of these laws and stereotypes like these are tainting our families and our society. These many issues are so very important to me because  I myself am a victim of paternity fraud, it has cost me driving privileges, my marriage, my ability to earn an income, my credit, Hope's of owning property and much more. The government continues to deny me any due justice or even help to restore my good name and the status stolen years ago despite aiding and abeding criminals in criminal activities throughout the entire time, and when faced with the evidence of proper facts the government does everything possible to punish the victim further. Also due to the injustices in the family court system it has even cost me a entirely separate child. So if it wasn't bad enough I was extorted through threats I still on top of all the systematic pressure, am still a victim i lost my first born son, and my only other second son, and like many other innocent men in our country, I am hurting and fighting to heal a wound that will never heal. Like myself, many young men in our country attempt to do the responsible thing and admit that a child is his own. Yet like me so many many other men are being found NOT to be the biological fathers of these children and our government is completely ignorant of the laws they fail to enforce like fraud, welfare fraud, extortion,  defamation, slander, libel and others that are instantly broken when falsified, or blatantly incorrect legal documents are pushed through the government's systems and those documents stand as the only evidence to prosecute innocent men like my self. We all understand hardships and the long time history that's nothing more than a overbroaden stereotype of " dead beat dads" but times have indeed changed and it is time now for the family courts, legislative leaders, communities and our society to reflect that change. The old cycle depicted above has been overly abused and has destroyed the lives and households of many hard working Americans  and it will not stop until we as INNOCENT MEN take a stand and demand the restitution owed by the government, the punishments owed to the criminals, the restoration of our correct statuses, the penalties for our many pains and sufferings, and the complete and whole correcting of ALL INCORRECT INFORMATION in the systems of the government. The system has laws for delinquent fathers it's time we had laws in place for restoring the status of victims and punishing criminals.... I'm sure most tax payers would agree less welfare fraud would help everyone sleep better at night, and at least for me punishing those responsible is necessary to prevent the continuing cycle of vindictive lies and rogue government agencies from destroying the fabric of our homes " The FATHERS ". Thank you all and many God Bless.

Nuclear disarmament: the ALP needs to commit to join the UN Nuclear Weapons Ban.

The new, ground breaking UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons is an enormous opportunity - our shared planet’s best chance to get rid of its worst weapons. There are almost 15,000 nuclear weapons in the world. Each can cause catastrophic harm, killing millions of innocent civilians in an instant. A conflict involving less than 0.5% of current arsenals would disrupt climate and crops around the world and threaten up to two billion people. We have come within a hair's breadth of nuclear war on at least seven occasions due to human and technical errors. Add the risk of hackers, escalating  military tensions, terrorism, new generation weapons and the threat of an unstable leader launching a strike and it is clear we need to act.  All Australian political parties and representatives should support this new treaty, however the current government has actively undermined it, even though it won ICAN a Nobel Peace Prize. It puts these weapons on the same footing as Chemical and Biological Weapons. Signing and ratifying the treaty will increase regional security and is consistent with existing treaty obligations, including with the USA and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). New Zealand, Thailand and the Philippines have all recently signed the ban treaty and remain strong allies of the US. The ALP must ensure Australia becomes part of the solution rather than the problem. It’s time to get on the right side of history in order to secure a future. We have a clear choice: to support nuclear weapons or a living planet. I urge you to act to ensure that Labor chooses well.

Dear politicians, we should elect our Prime Minister, not you!

We call on the members of parliament to introduce new laws regarding how a sitting Prime Minister can be removed. Because we should elect our Prime Minister, not the faceless power-brokers and disgruntled backbenchers. To the members of the Australian Parliament, Over the last 8 years Australia has had 5 changes to the Prime Ministership. To put this into some context, the previous 5 prime ministers were spread out over more than 3 decades. Given these facts I'm sure you'd agree that the recent track record is ridiculous. The events that we have witnessed in recent years, and again in August, is an absolute disgrace. It is making Australia the laughing stock of the world. Australians are fed up with seeing a running procession of Prime Ministers, especially when we didn't even vote for them. Frustratingly, the political class has repeatedly lectured us about how the Westminster system 'works' and how this system gives them the right to change our Prime Minister whenever the they want. Well, guess what? it clearly is not working - certainly not in the minds of the average Australian. The system is broken. At an election most Australians vote for a party, its policies and ultimately the leader who is plastered on every poster, TV and radio station. Therefore, we are effectively voting for the person who we wish to represent us as Prime Minister. We call on the members of parliament to introduce new laws regarding how a sitting Prime Minister can be removed. The aim of which is to make it harder for faceless power-brokers and disgruntled backbenchers to dispose of a sitting Prime Minister, against the peoples will.  Ultimately this is about the stability and integrity of our democracy. We don't just expect a higher standard of you, we demand it. Yours sincerely, The Australian people, your electors.
